Squamish Rock
Have you ever gazed up at the grand rock face that is the Chief at Squamish and seeing the small figures scaling at great heights, wondered what it was like? Or perhaps you have heard of moonlight ascents and pictured yourself sitting on a belay ledge among the stars gazing down at the lights of night-time Squamish? Maybe you want to push yourself on some reputedly hard classic. Let us take you there.

Easier Routes: 5.7 - 5.8

Diedre 5.7 - 7 pitches (Short Day)
This classic climb is the most popular route on the Apron and perhaps all of Squamish. A few pitches of easy slabs deposits you at the base of a stunning corner. Then it is up the corner for four pitches of delightful low angle laybacking. The angle eases towards the top except for the 'sting in the tail', the exit move onto Broadway Ledge and the top of the Apron.

Cost 1 person $258- 2 people $148 each

Due to the popularity of this climb, there can sometimes be a wait behind other climbing parties that can mean a longer time on the climb. It is recommended that you have an early starting time to avoid delays. (7am is usual and preferable)

Grading Systems
Throughout the world there are different methods of grading rock climbs. The grading system we have used on this website is the decimal system, as used across North America. Technical rock climbs are graded on a numerical scale from the easiest at 5.0. Grades from 5.10 upward are further subdivided into a, b, c, and d. The average person is capable of climb somewhere between 5.6 - 5.8 on their first day. Indoor climbers should remember that outdoor climbing is somewhat different and they will probably want to start a couple of grades easier than they can do in the gym

We have applied the use of the "+" meaning that on a 5.9+ route most of the climbing is no harder than 5.9 but there are one or two short sections of harder climbing. In these cases our guides have many tricks to help you through, should you find the + section too difficult.

The grading system we have applied for our Aid climbs is the standard A1 - A5. A1 traditionally means good placements and lots of them using mainly typical climbing gear. This ranges through with A4 requiring considerable experience using all the modern modified gear, route finding and possible bad rock with potentially big falls.
